A.A.R.C.S. (Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society)

Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS) was founded in 2006 by Melanie Crehan and a group of dedicated volunteers.

Our Mission
The Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society is a registered, non-profit charity whose mandate is to rescue abandoned, surrendered or abused small animals from First Nations Communities in Central Alberta, as well as other small animals in emergency situations at the discretion of the board.

These animals are placed in the safety of a foster home system while awaiting suitable placement in forever, adoptive homes. We provide veterinary care, food, basic training, love and support for these animals in foster homes as we search for appropriate adoptive homes.

Our Beliefs
Spay/neutering is a part of being a responsible pet owner and imperative to reducing the unwanted pet population and to end the suffering which we witness everyday.
We do not accept euthanasia as a means of population control for animals. We believe each dog is meaningful and deserves a loving home.
No animal purchased in a pet store comes from a “responsible breeder” nor are you “rescuing” an animal by purchasing it from a pet store, UNLESS the store is a pet-partner with rescue organizations or a shelter with “rescued dogs” available for adoption.
We take responsibility for each dog rescued and placed through AARCS for the rest of his or her natural life.
Education is needed to promote an understanding for the proper care, medical treatment, training and costs of pet ownership.

WHO WE ARE
Long-term Mission
To ensure that no animal is forced to live his/her life without adequate food, shelter and love.
To end the needless euthanasia of dogs and cats because of the lack of proper care or an available, loving home.
To offer resources to support and educate the importance spay/neuter programs and clinics, and to facilitate these programs.
AARCS has no paid staff and is run completely by a small group of volunteers concerned about the welfare of abandoned, abused and surrendered dogs in the province of Alberta. Our volunteers range in age from young children to seniors and all are animal-lovers who are looking to make a difference. If you are interested in becoming a part of the AARCS team please check out our Volunteer and Fostering pages.

Meet Romi:
Romi is our latest Alberta Animal Rescue Crew foster dog.
She is a young mom (9 pups all of whom have gone to their forever homes) who has had a very rough go. She came to us from a foster home that helped her birth her pups and started on the path to healing, but she was pretty much shut down completely. Today is a new though!
